Update


Hi all,

We've had a great time watching all your amazing videos and are so thankful for your feedback and support. I know it's been a while since we uploaded but things have been very busy. Nevertheless we've worked very hard to address the problems that we had with the project and the great suggestions that you guys have shown us. 

Here are all the things we've done for our first update:

Changes:

  • Added the highlight mechanic for interactive objects
  • Changed the font to a cleaner style and moved it to the bottom of the screen
  • Adjusted camera pivot (Thanks UnsealedWings)
  • Changed the objects in the shelve puzzle to make it clearer (Thanks Katyfoo and Jar Red)
  • Moved picture location to above puzzle
  • Changed lighting method to greatly improve performance (Thanks Totem Gamers)
  • Added dust particles to environment
  • Added light fog to interiors
  • Added basic street view outside windows
  • Changed clutter to not block line of sight with statue
  • Updated safe display and keypad
  • Changed text messages for interactions

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed flashlight not tracking camera angle
  • Fixed line-of-sight issue with statue stopping movement when observed through walls
  • Fixed candle from showing under the floor
  • Fixed storage walls clipping through floor below

There are still a lot of features we want to add or improve upon, and with out University term nearly finished, we will have plenty of time to work on it. Some of the features we are planning are:

  • Changing the Dark Souls "You Died" message
  • Adding new models for the doors
  • Add a way of stopping players from staring at the monster until it goes away
  • Adding lock models for the back door
  • Changing the arrangement puzzle from using a picture to text plaques
  • Showing held object when selected
  • Adding an introduction sequence to the game (like a tutorial, not a cinematic)
  • Giving the green vase a cracked texture
  • Improving collisions around tables and furniture
  • Improving the sounds in-game and adding more for the safe, display case, doors and other interactive objects.
  • Adding an pause menu
